Layla
Layla is an AI companion that runs its language models locally on the phone for offline chat, roleplay, character creation, and image generation. Most modes keep chats and inference on the device with encrypted storage, so conversations work without a network connection; an optional Cloud mode routes requests to a user-chosen hosted provider instead. Users can load their own GGUF models, attach VRM avatars, and choose from more than 100 local voices.

Nomi
Nomi’s clearest proposition is continuity: its memory, proactive messages and configurable relationship roles are designed to make each companion feel persistent rather than disposable. The service is not limited to one relationship, however; users can create multiple Nomis and bring them into group chats, making it better understood as several persistent identities within one account. This may appeal to users who value accumulated context across ongoing relationships, but the quality of memory recall and the ease of redirecting an established companion still require hands-on testing.
